The Terrell Hills Fire Department recommends every house should have a working fire extinguisher. Knowing where it's located can make the difference between putting out a small fire quickly or allowing it to turn into a major loss.
We recommend at least a multipurpose type "ABC" extinguisher on every level of your home. Before you attempt to use your extinguisher, always remember the following:
- Call 9-1-1 first and make sure the fire department is on the way
- Only use your extinguisher on small fires like a trash can or a pot on the stove
- Never turn your back on the fire, never let the fire get between you and your exit from the room
- Follow the acronym P.A.S.S. when using your extinguisher
- If in doubt, exit the building safely and let the fire department handle the fire
If you have any questions regarding the correct fire extinguisher for your home or how to use it please give us a call. Your Terrell Hills Firefighters are always available to stop by and show you how to keep your family safe from fire.
