Home Safety Surveys
We believe one of the most efficient ways to fight a fire is to never allow it to start. This philosophy and our resident's willingness to let us in their homes has led us in the direction we are taking now.
Our primary prevention activity is Free In-Home Fire Safety Surveys.
We typically provide this service to Terrell Hills residents on Thursdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. While providing this service, you will often see the fire apparatus parked on the street and our Firefighters walking door-to-door.
Fire Prevention Survey
When we make contact with a resident, we inform them that each survey takes roughly 15-20 minutes. We walk through the home, accompanied by the resident and look for any fire safety hazards that the resident may not think about during their daily life.
In the event any hazards are found, the prevention crew will only recommend that the hazard or habit be changed. We also check smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers during the survey. During this check, if we find that there is a need to replace or initially place a detector, the department donates a smoke detector with the assistance of Lowe's Hardware Store.
