The investigation of crime is a cooperative effort between the victim and the investigator. In most cases you will have key information that will help the investigator assigned to your case solve the offense. During the investigation of an offense the investigator may ask you to sign documents, and provide a sworn statement about the facts surrounding the crime. Depending on the severity and nature of the offense, the investigator will most likely contact you within 24 to 48 hours of the offense. Every case submitted to CID is important. Every case submitted to CID is reviewed and worked based on the severity and solvability of the crime.
We are fortunate to live in a community that has a very low crime rate, but we must continue to remain alert as crime does still occur. One of the most prevalent crimes in our area is property crime. If you are the victim of a property crime you can assist the investigator by taking steps to ensure that all serial numbers of the property in your home have been recorded. It is wise to place unique markings on property that does not have a serial number and then photograph this property. Always store this type of information in a safety deposit box.

There is a sign here at the police department that hangs on the door for our officers to read when they walk out of the building to go on patrol. It reads as follows:
When you pass through this door you represent the badge you wear.
You are held to a higher standard.
You are what stands between good and evil.
So when you pass through this door conduct yourself in an honorable and ethical manner.
Be Fair. Do good things.
